Something about lavender is so appealing and seems to draw me into the magic of purple blooms.  Looking for farms in the District/Maryland/Virginia area, I came across two relatively close locations.  First, I visited Seven Oaks, a small family-owned and operated farm at 8769 Old Dumfries Road in Catlett, VA.  With a seasonal bloom, the farm is only open June 2 – July 9.  I went soon after it opened and only some of the blooms were out.  So much potential here for photography…white gazebo strategically placed in the field, some benches, lawn chairs, friendly staff, etc.  – just need all those flower mounds to turn purple!!  There is also a kid playing area and fenced bunnies, a small store with unique gifts, and a reasonable entry fee.  Check their website for hours and pet day…worth a visit.

Next I visited Soleado Lavender Farm in Montgomery County.  I would suggest checking out mapquest first as my car GPS took me to White’s Ferry and I had to cross into Maryland that way!  I’m sure there is an easier way like right up route 15!  Only two rows of plants were in bloom, but once the field expansion project is complete, this place could be remarkable.  It has a lake and bamboo forest.  Located at 23611 W. Harris Road in Dickerson, Md.
